Activities



Nearby activities of Les Arches de Muschamp include tennis, horse riding, canoeing, fishing, swimming. There is also a good golf course nearby in Loches.


If you want to just enjoy the countryside there are plenty of possibilities to walk or cycle along tracks and quiet lanes starting from Les Arches de Muschamp.

Leisure Activities



Swimming

There is an excellent open air pool with water chutes and an 'aqua gym' at the Parc de loisir in DESCARTES. Please note French pools do not allow swimming shorts, men/boys must wear swimming trunks.
The leisure centre also has tennis courts, a pitch and putt and on the river canoeing. indoor pool at LIGUEIL and a very good modern recently refurbished pool (outdoor and indoor) at LOCHES
Lake swimming is available Parc des Petites Minaudieres near La ROCHE POSAY where you can also take out pedalos, play mini-golf, pony rides and fish.
A larger and better lake is a little further away, just south of CHATELLERAULT, the Parc de Saint-Cyr which has a large beach, water toboggans, a 9 and 18 hole golf course, pedalos, windsurfing and a restaurant set in 300 hectares of land.

Tennis
Tennis courts are in the leisure park at DESCARTES and at LIGUEIL.

Golf
La ROCHE POSAY has a golf club as does VILLEDIEU sur INDRE which is 18 holes, par 72. Open all year.
LOCHES, VERNEUIL Golf Club for adults and children.

Canoeing
On the river Creuse at the leisure park in DESCARTES. Hire and organized trips.
Moulin de Veigne at VEIGNE has all levels with tuition if required. Open every day July/August.

Horses
Good teaching facilities for children and adults at La Paulnière near LOCHES.

Cycling
Bikes are available for guests use and there are lots of quiet lanes and off road tracks called les chemins for cycling near to the house. There are also suggested routes in the brochure Loisirs Randonées in the file that you will find in your gite..

Walking
Many footpaths pass through the immediate countryside and a friendly guide to local footpaths for short walks lives locally and would be pleased to share some information if required. For more adventurous walking (more than two hours) La Touraine à Pied is an excellent pointer to local walks or longer hikes.

River Cruises
Along the Loire on a 66 seat boat. Departs from ROCHECORBON. Along the Cher valley past the Chateau of Chenonceau. Cruises with dinner available. Depart from CHISSEAUX.

Fishing
River fishing requires a permit from a fishing shop but there are several lakes where you can fish without a permit.

Wine Tasting
The Loire Valley is home to many famous named wines, red, rose, white and sparkling. Many growers offer tastings with an opportunity to buy direct.
Caves' are where wine of all standards is available to purchase, from the local wine sold by the litre (take you own plastic water bottles to fill up) through to connoisseurs choice.
SAUMUR is good for tasting the sparkling wines from the region and many vignerons will show you around their cellars, Gratien et Meyer is but one and is situated in the tufa stone of the Loire on the south bank on the road from Montsoreau.

Ballooning
Several companies offer balloon trips over the Loire but they are dependent on the winds and the weather. See the tourist office for more information.

Children's Touraine
You could entertain the children all week in fended with visits to many local attractions.
Not to be missed is Futuroscope, which really is interesting for adults too. It seems a little expensive but you can easily fill the whole day. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes for lunch or dinner and the evening is rounded off with an amazing light, laser and fireworks show. Do stay to the end to see this, as it really is spectacular.

A zoo of exceptionally high standard with daily seal and large bird spectaculars called Zoo Parc de BEAUVAL at St AIGNAN. The animals are all well kept (for a zoo).
The Giants of The Sky, Valley of the Monkeys and Serpent Island all near Poitiers.
Equitation displays (le Cadre Noir - from April to October)) and visits to the stables at L'Ecole Nationale d'Equitation (the National Cavalry School) at SAUMUR.
